Jean Crankshaw
Jean Crankshaw is a free-lance photographer who immigrated to Canada from Portsmouth, UK in 1966. Jean was born and raised by the sea, for which she has a strong affinity; consequently her work often features water. Jean loves to travel and ideas and inspiration come from journeys both real and virtual in her quest to push the boundaries of creativity. Combining a passion for photography and the world around us, she aims to capture moments to make the heart sing.
In 1976 Jean and her husband Denis moved to Ontario and in 1980 the couple began sheep farming. In 1997 while on sabbatical with her husband in Stockholm, Sweden, Jean found time to hone her long-time interest in photography. On her return to Ontario friends requested an exhibition of her photographs of Sweden; that first show was in her own kitchen and the response encouraged Jean to study photography and digital imaging at Mohawk College.
In 1998 the Crankshaws sold the farm and moved into Hamilton. Jean has run her own free-lance business, Amelia Silver Imaging, for twelve years. She has exhibited her photo-based artwork in several group and solo exhibitions in Ontario and has published her photographs in two books: 2011 Canadians at War: A Guide to the Battlefields of World War I by Susan Evans Shaw with photographs by Jean Crankshaw: http://www.gooselane.com/books.php?ean=9780864926548 and 2004 Heritage Treasures: The historic homes of Ancaster, Burlington, Dundas, East Flamborough, Hamilton, Stoney Creek and Waterdown by Susan Evans Shaw, photography by Jean Crankshaw. http://www.lorimer.ca/adults/Book/1097/Heritage-Treasures.html
