During the last 30 years I have been excited by the combination of light and colour, working with glass and wood craft, constantly learning more about the media and developing my self taught skills. After many projects, I continue still the processes of intuitively assembling elements in an organized combination of image and diverse materials. I derive great satisfaction from these processes and am constantly amazed by the images, the construction, the humour and the reception of these creations.

I was the child in our house who was making and building things from materials both found and at hand in the basement workshop. This continued through the teen years and resulted in a chemical engineering degree. I discovered that a desk job was not fulfilling as there was a lack of a hands on experience; I progressed to experimental theatre (sets etc.), building and operating a whole food store, constructing a demonstration windmill (renewable energy) and a longer term as property manager at a conference/camping facility. This led to almost 20 years as a contractor, licensed for residential renovation.  David McLaughlin
